Job Vacancy: STREET PASTORS P/T COORDINATOR (3days, equivalent to £24K F/T)
Street Pastors is a highly successful national Christian initiative now running in over 250 locations across the UK. Street Pastors helps combat crime and anti-social behaviour on the streets of UK towns and cities, they also offer support to those who are vulnerable or in need on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Management Committee are seeking to employ a part-time Project Coordinator to continue the work of building, developing & growing Reading Street Pastors. Street Pastors is a national initiative, run by the local Church in close partnership with Police, the Borough Council, main players in the night-time economy and other agencies. The project is an inter-denominational Church response to some of the issues which occur over weekends on urban streets in the late evening and early morning. Street Pastors seek to engage with people in the town centre to care, listen and help. The Street Pastors’ project has been operating in Reading town centre since October 2009; to date we have over/almost 65 volunteers representing 30 churches across Reading. As Street Pastors is an expression of the local Church, and because part of this role is promoting the initiative to churches and statutory authorities, it is expected that the co-ordinator be a committed Christian residing in the Reading area.
The successful applicant, if not already trained, will undergo the training necessary to become a Street Pastor, as it is expected that the coordinator will join one of the teams at least once-a-month.
An enhanced CRB Disclosure will be required for the successful applicant
